Since his first visit to South Africa in October 2012, virtuoso saxophonist  David Salleras has been collaborating on a project of concerts and recordings of original music with Christopher Duigan.  Regarded as one of the world leaders in contemporary classical saxophone players Salleras ( who is based in Barcelona, Spain)  has attracted international attention though his fluency in a variety of musical styles. In addition his innovative compositions which incorporate  traditional flamenco idioms with contemporary and  avant grade performing techniques are performed by saxophonists worldwide.

His partnership with pianist Christopher Duigan has focussed however on something quite different;  Duigan's own original music for saxophone and piano. Created over a number a years Salleras has expressed a particular interest in this new music.  He sees this music as a worthwhile and valuable contribution to the saxophone repertoire.  The music, suitable for concert and teaching material, includes 'Six Pint Sized Pieces', 'Four KZN Landscapes',  'Soledad' and 'Indigo'.  This selection was recently recorded for future release.  A number of tracks are available on professionally produced videos on youtube and vimeo (see the media page). Scores will be published and available under Salleras own soon to launched publishing label.

A typical recital performance by Salleras and Duigan includes selections from their vibrant world music repertoire;  by Pedro Ittruralde (Czardas; Suite Hellenic), and  Astor Piazzolla plus selections form both the Duigan and Salleras repertoire.  These performances have taken place in Music in The Mountains (Drakensberg Boys Choir School),  Cape Town (UCT),  Franschhoek Classic Music Festival,  Tatham Art Gallery (Pietermaritzburg) and Brooklyn Theatre (Pretoria).  A major highlight was the recent performances by Salleras with Duigan at the piano in thee Piazzolla numbers - Libertango,  Oblivion and Adios nonino   - with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban City Hall.  This selection was repeated in  Pietermaritzburg in October 2014.

On a recent visit David spent time in the studio of legendary photographer Val Adamson. Christopher has worked closely with Val for many years.  Many of the  of the Music Revival artists portrait pictures are  taken by Val.  David and Val had a great time together and these are some of the resulting PR pics.  At the end there are also a few snaps where you can an see them hard at  work/play setting up!

We have hosted several 'pop up' restaurant evenings called The Table. The idea is that everyone brings their abilities, contributions,  discussion  and ideas 'to the table'.  There are no bystanders.  Some bring music, others cook,  some have grown and produced food, wine or plates!  Others crucially photograph and write articles and blogs resulting in valuable publicity .  Here are some pics from a recent evening that featured Bouchard Finlayson Wines presented  by special guest Peter Finlayson. Pics are by Jonathan Burton.  Some of the resulting published articles are here.
